Protostar Labs has entered into an agreement to acquire Photon Logic, strengthening our advanced vision and onboard data processing capabilities for space applications.

We’re excited to share that Protostar Labs has entered into an agreement to acquire Photon Logic, marking an important milestone in the continued growth of our team and technology.

This step strengthens our capabilities in advanced vision and onboard data processing systems—areas that sit at the core of what we build at Protostar Labs. Photon Logic brings deep expertise in camera systems, FPGA design, low-level image processing pipelines, and hardware–software co-design, complementing our existing work and accelerating the development of robust, high-performance systems designed to operate close to the sensor.

For the past year, we have been collaborating with Photon Logic on the design of next-generation camera modules for space applications, including Earth observation, rendezvous and proximity operations, and spacecraft deployment monitoring. During this cooperation, we realized that their know-how and capabilities perfectly complement our own and strengthen our ability to grow into a first-class space solution provider. By acquiring Photon Logic, we gain not only new team members with more than 25 years of combined experience in embedded systems, camera design, FPGAs, battery systems, and advanced robotics, but also engineering practices, principles, and leadership that will support our growth in the years to come.

As part of the acquisition, Miroslav Rožić, founder of Photon Logic, joins Protostar Labs as Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Miroslav brings extensive hands-on experience in embedded vision systems and system architecture, and will help guide our long-term technical direction. Ante Orešković also joins Protostar Labs as Head of Hardware Development, where he will lead the design and evolution of our hardware platforms.

With the Photon Logic team and office joining Protostar Labs, we are expanding our operations to Zagreb, complementing our existing activities and further growing our R&D footprint in Croatia. This expansion allows us to scale our engineering efforts, strengthen local collaboration, and continue building deep-tech expertise within the region.

By bringing our teams together, we’re not just adding new capabilities—we’re aligning around a shared approach to building reliable, efficient, and carefully engineered systems for space and other demanding environments. We believe this combination positions us well for the next phase of our roadmap.
